Who We Are

Founded on the pioneering work of Bernie H. Hamling, Zircar Zirconia, Inc. proudly carries forward a legacy of innovation in advanced fibrous ceramics. The original ZIRCAR Process, developed at Union Carbide Corp. in Sterling Forest, NY, is the foundation of our exceptional products. In 1974, Bernie acquired the patents and established ZIRCAR Products, Inc., setting the standard for high-quality ceramics.

Zircar ZrO2 fibrous ceramics are manufactured using the original ZIRCAR Process, which was developed by Bernie H. Hamling (BHH) while at Union Carbide Corp. in Sterling Forest, NY. In 1974, BHH purchased the patents for the process and began ZIRCAR Products, Inc.

Over the years, the name ZIRCAR became synonymous with high-quality, advanced fibrous ceramics. In July 2000, Bernie’s son, HCraig Hamling, and daughter, Clare Hamling, purchased Bernie’s zirconia business, and to this day, Zircar Zirconia, Inc. is the only company to still use his original process.

Today, HCraig remains CEO, and Christy Jackson is president and a third-generation engineer following her father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. Although Bernie is no longer with us, we think of him often and are grateful for the opportunity to continue his legacy in the ceramics industry.

Zircar Zirconia, Inc. remains the sole company using Bernie’s original process, reflecting our commitment to maintaining his vision and contributions to the ceramics industry. Though Bernie is no longer with us, his legacy endures, inspiring us to innovate and excel in every advancement we make.
