Alumina Materials

Buster Products

Buster products are available in high alumina or mullite chemistries. Furnace modules with Buster RS skins, Buster M-15 intermediate, and Buster M-35 hot face insulation layers will rapidly cycle to 1800°C.

Buster Aluminum Oxide Fibrous Ceramic Insulation is a rigid, fibrous ceramic material produced by
vacuum forming alumina fibers with either a high alumina binder, Buster A, or silica binder, Buster M,
to create a mullite bond at high temperatures. Buster boards and cylinders have great thermal shock
resistance. Both Buster A and Buster M chemistries are offered in a range of densities.

Buster Alumina Rigidizer is formulated for the surface hardening of all alumina fiber products and for use in the fabrication of alumina composites from textiles and other advanced materials. Buster Rigidizer is a colloid of high-purity aluminum oxide in a water base. The liquid formulation, when applied to various materials, increases density, hardens surfaces, helps resist material erosion, and can bind materials together.

Buster Alumina Cement is an off-white single-part alumina adhesive with a useful temperature limit of 1650°C. Buster Alumina Cement is formulated specifically for bonding Buster A and Buster M Boards and Cylinders to themselves or to back-up thermal insulations such as porous firebrick and alumino-silicate fiber boards. Buster Alumina Cement is composed of milled alumina fibers and sub-micron particles. It is nonflammable, mildly acidic (pH 5), and forms a strong bond upon drying.

Alumina and Other Rigid Materials

White cotton fabric folded neatly, showcasing a textured pattern. Ideal for sewing or crafting projects requiring a soft, breathable material.

Buster Blankets are flexible, high-alpha alumina fiber insulation materials. The 72% alumina blanket is 100% fibers, while the 97% alumina blanket has been needled into a durable blanket with the addition of an organic fiber reinforcement. All forms have useful properties up to 1600°C. These polycrystalline fiber blankets offer higher temperature capability, less shrinkage, and greater chemical resistance than standard alumina-silica blankets.

Two white plastic sheets, one larger and rectangular with slots, and a smaller strip with a hole, set against a blue background. Used for assembly or design purposes.

Buster RS is a fiberglass/alumina ceramic composite material with uses up to 1260°C. It has exceptional compressive strength, comparable to high-temperature reinforced plastics; however, it retains its strength and useful life far beyond the maximum temperatures of these plastics. It is also an ideal replacement for asbestos-based rigid products.

Buster RS has a high alumina content, which can resist the sticking of molten metals in many environments. This material can be machined to fit your needs. Your custom design can be milled by our machining department to tight tolerances.

Buster Paper, a polycrystalline alumina refractory ceramic paper. It is offered in sheets and rolls in various thicknesses and lengths. As with any of our textiles, Buster paper is easily die cut to any custom shape, and can be milled by our custom machining team. It is an ideal choice for gaskets, seals, and separators for a number of different applications.

Dense Aluminum Oxide Plates, DASP, are strong, rigid, high-purity, refractory, for use as high-temperature hearth plates, kiln furniture, separators, and weights. DASP is 99.5% pure alumina, which is chemically inert and dimensionally stable to 1800°C. Dense alumina setter plates have exceptional sag resistance to both oxidizing and reducing atmospheres at high temperatures and most corrosive environments, and are normally used as hearth plates in rapid heat electric furnaces.
