In box furnace module construction, using multiple layers of low thermal conductivity Buster insulation in different densities allows the outside shell to be within a safe temperature range. The vertical insulation design allows for thermal expansion of the material without bowing into the chamber.

The insulation for furnace design is not limited to a box. Cylinders with lids and bases can be used in the crystal growth industry, for example, where the design is for even heating around a crucible containing a melt. Lids are custom machined with a small hole to insert the rod containing a crystal seed for silicon microchip and other crystal growth.
